Voters deserve better than smoke and mirrors
Thu 01 May 2008 19:01

The issue for the voters in the South Greensburg district is being confused. It is not, as some would have us believe, a contest between good and bad people, and it is not a referendum on religion. Also, it is not, as some have implied, a guarantee that economic good times will come to Greensburg. It is just a proposition that asks if a glass of beer or wine can be served to adults with a meal. It is nothing more and nothing less.

This birthday is really special
Tue 11 Mar 2008 15:58

Birthdays aren’t what they used to be. There was a time when all my pals would come over on the big day, and after cake and ice cream, we would play with a new ball and bat or check out some of the newest trading cards I got in a birthday card. Sometimes we would stay inside and set up the Hot Wheels and play with a few new cars or we would ride bikes and check out a new accessory or two that was designed to increase speed; you know, reflectors in the spokes or tassels on the handle bars, that kind of thing.

Tue 29 Jan 2008 17:49
The books are closed and the numbers are in for the 2007 fiscal year.  As Cities and Counties close out their audits and verify where they stand, local governments are seeing how well they did when projecting their budgets and sticking to them.
As for the fiscal 2007 year, I am happy to report that the City of Greensburg had another strong year.  However, it is always helpful in understanding the budget and the audit when you have some historical background as a reference.  So, as you review each section of this report I will attempt to supply a reference to some of the past data and how that has changed or fluctuated over the past several years.

Neither Here, Nor There...
Tue 29 Jan 2008 17:45
From time to time, I will be venting my frustrations about subjects of everyday life.  It was something I saw the other day; while I was driving to work and noticed a pickup truck in front of me, that sounded like a great big semi tractor-trailer.

It’s time we all learn how to read
Tue 11 Dec 2007 18:53
"The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who cannot read them." Mark Twain

I love to read.
Some of my earliest memories are of sitting on the couch with my mother as she read to me Dr. Seuss, or Clifford the Big Red Dog, or one of many other classic children's books. Even today I can almost hear her voice rising and falling with the rhythm of the words, and I can still recall the warmth and closeness of sitting next to her as she read to me.
