Every home could use a little Ink

You know with all of the cold weather we’ve been experiencing lately it is especially hard on the pets, I have always been softhearted, as is my wife. We both have a hard time seeing little animals ( kittens, puppies) abandoned and left to fend for themselves. Now we’ve always had cats at home .and had talked about how the Sun could use a pet.
By Byron Cravens Publisher You know with all of the cold weather we’ve been experiencing lately it is especially hard on the pets, I have always been softhearted, as is my wife. We both have a hard time seeing little animals ( kittens, puppies) abandoned and left to fend for themselves. Now we’ve always had cats at home .and had talked about how the Sun could use a pet. One day last year a ragged old tomcat showed up at the paper, and of course we immediately started feeding him. At the time my wife was feeding two raccoons, two deer and whatever else she could feed. We knew the tom was someone’s pet but apparently had been abandoned. He was a house cat, because he had no problem coming inside and taking over as most cats do. Fortunately all of the employees here at the Sun likes cats, well, maybe with the exception of our editor. He tolerated the old tom because the cat didn’t bother anyone and just wanted to get in out of the cold. But at the end of the day when the cat would go out he might disappear for days on end and we never knew whether he would reappear or whether we would ever see him again. He always tended to come back in three or four days, so we all got used to having him around. He disappeared about a month ago, and we thought he may have gone back to his real home. About three weeks ago when my wife and I were doing our weekly newspaper stand deliveries we found a little kitten at one of the newspapers boxes. He was about six weeks old. It was really cold that night and he was hungry and our being softhearted - well need I say more. We decided to take him back to the Sun. Since then the kitten has ruled the roost here at the Sun. Now, our Editor is a DOG LOVER (not that there is anything really wrong with that – I like dogs, too.) He tried to throw the kitten out two or three times the first day, but finally realized that he was here to stay. Then one day the old tomcat walks back in the door , Well the kitten and tom get along fairly well, although the kitten wools the tom extensively until Tom has to go out to get away from him. Now sometimes the kitten gets out of hand, as kittens do, and we thought we would just put him up in our basement at the paper. That didn’t work too well. The kitten would always find a way to get out. Sometimes, you wouldn’t get out of the basement before he would reappear. Now he’s starting to settle down a little and he can be, from time to time, somewhat annoying. but now I couldn’t give him up if I had to. We have named our new kitten Ink and the old tomcat, whom we call Tom Tom, still comes and goes no worse for wear but the kitten stays in the office. Yes I guess he’s a permanent fixture here now and hopefully my wife or I will not come across any abandon pets for a while. If you happen to call the Sun one day and you hear what appears to be a catfight going on in the background pay no mind to it. It’s just our kids fighting and someone will break it up shortly. Believe me, one kitten and one old tomcat is enough for this office, and by the way please spay and neuter your pets. Don’t abandon unwanted animals in hopes someone will pick them up – take them to the Animal Shelter where they can be placed in good homes.
