A Campbellsville man has been indicted for Attempted Murder after he fired shots at a police officer. Adam Douglas Powell, 22, 506 Woodlawn, Campbellsville, Ky., was indicted on April 23, 2008, by the Taylor County Grand Jury for Attempted Murder and two counts of Wanton Endangerment First Degree. The indictments are the result of a domestic situation that escalated into a shooting incident on March 29, 2008, after Campbellsville Police responded to a 911 call. According to Kentucky State Police, a caller contacted Campbellsville Police and advised that a domestic altercation was escalating and that a man with a gun was at the scene threatening violence. Once officers arrived they observed Powell inside the residence and when he stepped outside they advised him to drop his weapon. Powell refused to obey the order and pointed his weapon at Campbellsville Police Officer Jason Simpson and fired. Officer Simpson returned fire and hit Powell twice wounding him. Officer Simpson was not wounded in the exchange. Powell was taken to Taylor Regional Hospital and later transferred to University of Louisville Hospital where he was treated for gunshot wounds and placed under arrest. According to the indictments, Powell manifested extreme indifference to the value of human life and wantonly engaged in conduct that created a substantial danger of death or serious injury to Tiffany Bowen and officer Justin Phillips. The indictment charges that Powell attempted to murder officer Jason Simpson when he fired his weapon. Powell was held on a $50,000 full cash bond. The Taylor County Grand Jury also handed down indictments against Tia L. Watt, 29, 10172 New Columbia Road, Columbia, Ky., and Yolanda Sanchez, 31, 609 Cedar Street, Columbia, Kentucky. According to a Campbellsville Police Department press release officer Riggs was attempting to arrest Watt when she tried to flee the scene and struck officer Riggs with her vehicle knocking him to the ground. Watt was later stopped on KY 55 and arrested and lodged in the Marion County Detention Center. The indictments charge that Watt and Sanchez unlawfully took control over property valued at more than $300 that belonged to another and that Watt manifested extreme indifference to the value of human life by wantonly engaging in conduct that created a substantial danger of death or serious physical injury to three police officers. The indictment also alleges that Watt attempted to cause physical injury to officer Ben Riggs. Watt and Sanchez were both held on a $20,000, 10 percent cash bond. Anthony J.
